In the drifting world, control from the transmitter is everything. You need to be able to be one with your ride, and every input from the transmitter must make it to the vehicle in a split-seconds notice to keep it under control. That being said, the 3Racing Sakura D4 Drift car is getting a dose of Futaba. I’ve run Futaba for quite some time and have been thoroughly impressed with the features their radio system have. For this project, we’re installing a S9551 Low-Profile servo to handle the steering and a 3PL radio system for control.
Let’s take a quick look at the S9551 servo. Because space is a bit limited, we need a low-profile servo. The S9551 fits the bill, being only 31.6mm tall, big enough to handle the job, small enough to allow more room for the other electronics. But don’t think because it’s small that it’s not a powerhouse – this shorty has a speed rating of .11 – plenty of wheel whipping speed to keep the D4 pointed in the right direction. The torque is a bit overkill for drifting – 122oz/in – but at least you’ll know that there’s plenty of power for any drifting situation.
For control, we’re including Futaba’s 3PL radio system. This is a great radio, featuring a 3-channel operation (4 if you count the switched, non-proportional channel), ABS braking, 10-model memory, dual rates, End Point adjustments and so on, and so on… Yes, it has it all. it’s also has a very comfortable feel and has an internal antenna so you don’t bang it around when transporting it. It runs on 2.4GHz so there’s no fear of channel interference and uses Futaba’s FHSS system for extremely fast response.
This is a great system that will also allow you to expand your fleet if this is your first vehicle.
