Axial has been teasing a new ride the last couple of days and it has finally arrived – the AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 Trail Buggy. Pronounced Hee-la-mon (like the Gila Monster), this buggy comes to us on an all new platform, the AXP8 – all new drivetrain and suspension wrapped in a highly scale tube frame. Other new features include a set of scale internal spring shocks, Raceline Avenger wheels, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires, portal axles, a full set of LED rock lights, a full set of Spektrum electronics and a new component – ASD, which stands for Axial Selectable Drive. This crazy-cool feature allows you to lock one rear wheel at a time (selectable via a servo) to help carve better corners.

What We Like:
The Gilamon may look alot like previous vehicles, however the functionality appears to be completely different, especially the ASD system – basically a one-wheel dig setup. We also love the colored rock lights and, of course, the overall look is pretty bad ass. This should be a really fun ride to rock crawl with.
What We’re Not Sure About:
At 1/8 scale, we’re not quite sure where this is going to fit in as far as crawlers – it’s bigger than 1/10 and, while Axial says it can play with them, will certainly have advantages over the smaller platforms. Maybe it will create a whole new segment…
