MaxAmps introduces their new Cylindrion line of Lithium batteries. These packs are said to be safer than standard LiPo batteries due to their round, metal cased cells.

The Cylindrion packs can be charged using a standard LiPo charger and have the same voltage range but are lighter and carry a higher capacity than standard LiPos. They also include MaxAmps’ new Smart Battery feature, letting you audit the condition of the pack right from an onboard monitor.

What We Like:
Battery tech, especially in LiPos, has come to a peak, so it’s good to see the ‘next generation’ of battery start to appear. While LiPos have been a major boost to the performance of RC vehicles, safety is still a wildcard factor. IF these new cells are safer than standard LiPos, it will only be a matter of time until everyone switches to the Cylindrions. Which is a good thing…

What We’re Not Sure About:
A 10000mAh 2S pack (with the Smart Battery feature) is only about $130. Is that added safety worth the extra money to some?
