Review: PROTOform Crosshair Body Mounting Kit

Review: PROTOform Crosshair Body Mounting Kit

So you’ve just finished building your car. You’ve spent plenty of time making sure the suspension is perfect, the shock’s lengths all match and the wiring is pristine. The next step is to mount your freshly painted body … it’s beautiful, it’s eye-catching – it’s an extension of who you are. It’s all cut out and ready to mount except for one part, the body mount holes. That’s OK, just place the body on the car, line up the tires to the wheel cutouts and poke some holes … it’ll fit like a glove.

Review: PROTOform Crosshair Body Mounting KitIf you’re like me, you’ve probably been through this scenario a hundred times and guess what; the tires NEVER line up with the wheel cutouts. It’s certainly frustrating, but thankfully PROTOform has come to the rescue with their Crosshair Body Mounting Kit.

The concept is incredibly simple. Slide the body post cap (which contains a magnet) over the car’s body post, position your painted body on top of the posts and drop the Marking Magnet on the outside of the body. The two magnets will “click” together, showing you the location of the post. Simply mark the location through the hole in the Marking Magnet with a pen and voilà … perfect mounting holes.

One of the coolest things I found is when the body was in position, I could move it to the left, right, front or back and the magnets would stay aligned. This allowed me to fine-tune the mounting holes prior to drilling.

Review: PROTOform Crosshair Body Mounting KitThis kit is designed to work primarily with touring cars (or anything utilizing a 5mm body post) since these are extremely sensitive to body mounting positions. I was able to find a short course truck with 5mm body posts and the results were the same … a perfectly mounted body.

The Crosshair Body Mounting Kit includes four post caps and four external magnets, all wrapped in a handy little carrying case. Looks like you don’t have any more excuses for your botched mounting job.
