Hobbytown USA’s HobbyPlex Raceway in Omaha, Nebraska was the site of this year’s ROAR Carpet Nationals. Thanks to its centralized location, the event was attended by racers from all over ROAR’s U.S. and Canadian territory. The HobbyPlex crew created a challenging, high-speed track configuration that put driver skill and setup ability to the ultimate test.

Ample practice time on Wednesday gave each entrant plenty of opportunities to fine tune their driving and their car setups heading into Thursday’s controlled practice session, which were used to seed the drivers into qualifying heats featuring drivers of similar speeds. Two rounds of qualifying were scheduled for Friday with a heat re-sort preceding two more qualifying rounds on Saturday. Sunday was reserved for the lower main events, triple A Mains for each class, and award presentation.

While the outside temperature was hovering around 0 degrees Fahrenheit and snowing, Keven Hébert was heating things up in the 1/12 Modified class with his Reedy-powered 12R5.2. Taking full advantage of his Reedy competition LiPo batteries, Sonic 540 Mach 2 motor, and Blackbox ESC, Keven claimed the number one seed in controlled practice en route to running the fastest time in each of the four rounds of qualifying.

Starting on the pole position, Keven continued his domination with a wire-to-wire win in leg one followed by another win in leg two. With two wins, Keven could not be beat and became the 2014 ROAR 1/12 Modified National Champion!

After an exciting battle in the TC Modified class, Kody Knudtson took the win in leg three and National Championship using a Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2 4.5 motor.

Special thanks to ROAR’s Race Management Team for another well-organized event and to the HobbyPlex for providing the excellent venue.
