The 13th Annual Dirt Nitro Challenge was held at Fear Farm R/C Raceway February 22-26 in beautiful Phoenix, Arizona. At this years event, after all the 1/8, 1/10, and 1/5 scale entries were in…it was official that this years DNC would be the largest to date by reaching a staggering 700 total entries! The weather would be perfect all weekend long staying consistently in the upper 70’s.

Race Schedule:
Wednesday, February 22nd: 2 Controlled Practice Runs Per Class
Thursday, February 23rd: 3 Rounds of Truggy Qualifying
Friday, February 24th: 3 Rounds of Buggy Qualifying
Saturday, February 25th: Lower Truggy Main Bump-Ups followed by the 45-Minute A-Main
Sunday, February 26th: Lower Buggy Main Bump-Ups followed by the 45-Minute A-Main

Qualifying consisted of 3 7-Minute qualifiers for each class. Then each drivers 2 best points would be added together to determine the overall qualifying order. 12 cars would go straight into the A-Mains, followed by 3 bump-ups from the lower mains making it a 15 car field.

In the 1/8 Open Buggy Class it was Sean Gaffney who went onto TQ rounds #2 and #3 to take the overall TQ for the class.

Sean then went on to win the 45-Minute A-Main Event by over a lap to take his first ever big race win! Mike Gaffney, Sean’s Dad did an awesome job with the pit stops throughout the entire 45-Minutes.

Sean also finished a very respectable 2nd overall in the Open Truggy Class to cap off a great weekend!
