Team Associated Dominate 2013 Reedy Race of Champions

Since its triumphant return in 2011, it’s been a “must attend” for the top racers from around the world. In the 19th running of the prestigious event, 4x World Champion and Team Associated driver, Ryan Cavalieri, became only the fifth driver to win the coveted title for a second time.

Cavalieri joins a list that includes historic names from our industry like Cliff Lett, Masami Hirosaka, Mark Pavidis, and Brian Kinwald as multi-time winners. Using his newly released Factory Team B4.2 and B44.2 with LRP Flow Works team speed controls, Cavalieri held off over 12 rounds of head-to-head racing against the deepest field of competitors since the event’s return. With six first-place finishes, four of which came in 2WD and two in 4WD, Cavalieri was both excited and relieved after the final round when he sealed up the title, stating, “That was a very stressful three days. The cars came through like a champ.”

In the 2WD and 4WD Open Classes, Team Associated/ Reedy/LRP driver Rob Gillespie set the pace through qualifying, securing the Top Qualifying position in both classes with his Factory Team B4.2 and B44.2, which was powered by Reedy Sonic motors, Reedy batteries and LRP speed controls. With wire-to-wire victories in the double A-Main events in 4WD Open, Gillespie received an invitation to compete against the best of the best for the 2014 running of the Reedy Race. A great comeback from Gillespie in A2 of 2WD salvaged a second place overall, giving him a second podium finish. Also joining Gillespie on the podium for Team Associated/Reedy/LRP was Max Flurer in 4WD with a third place overall.

A new feature for the 19th running of the Reedy Race was the Junior final that pitted the top 10 drivers 15 years old and under that didn’t qualify for the 2WD Open main event. The star of this race was Team Associated/Reedy/LRP driver Daimon Borkowicz. Working his way through the pack, the 12-year-old Borkowicz found his way to the front, and after 10 minutes of racing, reached the top step of the podium. Joining him with a well-deserved third place overall was teammate Tommy Hinz.

Thanks to all the racers and the WCRC facility for another great Reedy Race! All of us here at Team Associated are looking forward to the 20th running of the event bearing the legend Mike Reedy’s name.
