Vintage Off Road Nationals 2012

The 2012 Vintage Offroad Nationals goes club racing!
Celebrating our 5th year, the 2012 Vintage Offroad Nationals is hitting the great outdoors to the brand new track at Bethel Race arena hosted by the BRCRO RC Club in Bethel, CT. After 4 great years, the Vintage Offroad Nats has proven that you don’t have to be a pro racer or spend a ton to have a great time at a national level event, you just have to love RC! Think of the race as more of a celebration of our industry and it’s landmarks rather than a race. We couldn’t be more excited to see this event to it’s 5th year and thank all of you that have supported the race in prior years. New to the Vintage Offroad Nationals this year is our website to be launched the end of May which will feature all the info about the race, links to our YouTube and UStream channels, Facebook page and galleries of past years images and videos.

What is the Vintage Offroad Nationals?
The Vonats as it’s been known, is a race event for vintage RC cars with a full concours, swap meet and new this year a charity class. This year’s program will be made up of the same awesome 7 classes we’ve featured last year. All cars limited to approximately 1994 production year and broken up into classes for 2wd, 4wd, Stadium Truck, Classic (for all non-pro/entry level style cars), Novice (same type of cars as Classic but limited to kids 14 and younger) and Heavy Metal which is broken up into two subclasses and run together Grand Am style with trophies for both! HM1 will be for those high flying, car crushing, big tire monsters like the Clod Buster, USA-1, etc while HM2 will be for the racier monsters such as the King Cab, Blackfoot and Sledgehammer! After a great success in Classic last year, we will be continuing to allow pro style “true vintage” cars to run in their box stock configurations for the pure vintage r/c enthusiasts. Last year this class proved to be a blast with the pro cars running on their stock tires and original suspension setups and the action on the track was amazing.

Charity class!
This year we’re adding a charity/exhibition class. Back in March the CT area lost a long time racer and dear friend named Steve Semeraro. If you’ve raced anywhere in or near New England for the last 15 years you knew Steve, he was an avid racer and someone that always helped anyone that needed. For the 2012 Vintage Offroad Nationals, a car has been prepared with a Fat Shark RC Vision System. Participants will take a total of 3 laps using the video goggles to navigate the course; the winner will be the person that runs the fastest overall time with the tie breaker being the single fastest lap. Winner will receive a car kit and all proceeds from the class will be made into a donation to the American Diabetes Foundation in Steve’s name. It will certainly be a fun event to be part of and it’s all going to a good cause for a great person!
