RC Suspension Tuning Guide – Axle, Trailing

RC Tuning - Trailing Axle

What is a Trailing Axle?
Trailing Axles denote the axle placement behind the kingpin. This is standard on most 2WD vehicles (especially offroad) and provides the best overall steering feeling. Trailing Axles provide less aggressive steering and should be used on high-grip or ‘blue groove’ tracks.

On some cars, the axle can be moved closer or farther away from the kingpin using spacers.

It is important to adjust the Ackermann and wheelbase settings to compensate for the trailing axle adjustment.

Tuning with Trailing Axle
Farther from the Kingpin
• More stable handling/steering
• Better for lower traction

Closer to the Kingpin
• Quicker initial steering movement
• Better for high traction
