You may have noticed a slight lull in the posting of the site stats for CompetitionX. There is a good explanation for this…
Back in April of 2014, I was contacted by my host that my site was using too many ‘CPU Resources’, basically meaning that the site bandwidth was running way over what I was allocated with my hosting package. This would cause occasional shutdowns of the site at random times and wouldn’t let anyone in until I fixed the problem.
My host gave me two options; 1) I could ‘bottleneck’ the site by using additional software, essentially throttling back the amount of traffic the site was getting, or 2) move the site to a different, dedicated server. Since moving to a dedicated server meant more money, I figured I’d try the bottleneck method first.
Bad idea. While the site stayed live, this option did block a lot of my traffic!. On top of that, my stats dropped and I had a few friends say they weren’t able to get on my site.
When I contacted my host, they told me that this would fix itself and to wait it out, so that’s what I did. Again, another bad idea.
Time went by, and I was still getting the ‘CPU Resource’ e-mails. I tried different things to fix the problem but nothing seemed to work, and I would continue to get the dreaded ‘Bandwidth Exceeded’ message popping up on my screen. Needless to say, it was a rough 6 months.
Finally fed up with the whole situation, I decided in October 2014 that it was time to move the site to it’s own server and just open up the floodgates; give me back my traffic!
During this time, I also decided to give the site a little revamp; new graphics, new organization and new sections. I’d like to thank my wonderful wife Danna for her help with this. Sometimes you need a different eye on things when you’re so close to a project.
I’m also strengthening my focus a lot more on the Beginner to RC, so you’ll be seeing quite a few more articles going up in that category.
As you can see, I’m happy to report the site is back up and gaining strength. I predict a wonderful year in 2015 and would like to thank all of you who have continued to support CompetitionX.
I promise to continue to do my best to make this a site you’ll come to over and over again to get your RC information.
Thanks again for your support!
Burn some rubber.
