Question:
Mr. Doc-
I have the Futaba FP-T6NFK transmitter and a Tactic TCB 100 ESC Rec/Gyro. I’m looking for a set of crystals and don’t know what it takes as far as single or dual conversion. I matched up the one in the TX which I thought was a dual with a RX dual but didn’t work. Trying to find out if they take single conversion or I have a dead crystal.
Dave
Answer:
Hiya Dave.
First, let’s take a look at the difference between a single and dual conversion setup. Basically the difference is that a single conversion has only one ‘mixer’ stage; the receiver take the incoming signal and mixes ith with one local oscillator signal. This frequency is then amplified as a IF, or Intermediate Frequency. The draw back of a single conversion system is that there is a chance of ‘image reception’, or the receiver picking up an ‘image’ of another frequency at either the high or low end of the band.
A dual conversion receiver has two ‘mixer’ stages and two local oscillators. This eliminates any chance of ‘image reception’. Dual conversion also allows for better interference rejection.
That being said, the Futaba FP-T6NFK is a single conversion system, so your dual conversion crystals won’t work. You’ll need to find a set of single conversion crystals. After you’ve done that, plug everything up and make sure the receiver is getting power. It’s possible one of the ports in the receiver has gone bad, so you might need to just plug in the essentials to see if it works (receiver pack and one or two servos).
If you find that one of your ports is dead you can either purchase a new receiver or get a Y-harness and split a port that way.
Good luck!
